  • About the registry of .taipei.

    Taipei City Government is the registry of .taipei. Net Chinese Co., Ltd. is the authorized registry operator and in charge of registration service and marketing activities.

  • Who can apply for a .taipei domain name?

    Anyone who is interested in .taipei can submit application from General Availability (9-September, 2015). Before General Availability, Trademark holders are eligible to register .taipei domain name in Sunrise and Taipei Enterprise Sunrise Period.

  • How many years can I apply for a .taipei domain name?

    Domain name must be registered for three (3) years in Sunrise Period, Taipei Enterprise Sunrise Period and Landrush Period. Domain name can be registered for a period 1-10 years in General Availability. You can renew a domain name before the expired date.

  • The Naming rule for .taipei.
    1. Consist of Chinese simplified or traditional characters, the letters A-Z, the numbers 0-9 and hyphens;
    2. Not begin or end with a hyphen;
    3. Contains at least not less than 3 characters and not exceed 63 characters ( for non-ASCII label, this criteria is applied to the length of punycode transferred from Chinese label);
    4. not contain consecutive hyphens, except where two consecutive hyphens (-) are used in the 3rd and 4th positions, when preceded by “xn” and followed by a label that corresponds with an IDN containing characters.;
    5. For IDN, it must contain at least one Unicode (Chinese) character.
  • Can I apply for an IDN.taipei?

    Yes, you can register ASCII and Chinese character for .taipei domain name. Especially, you can apply for only one Chinese character .taipei domain name such as 愛.taipei. It is an easy memory domain name for user in Great China area.

  • .taipei Domain Name Life Cycle.

    The life cycle of .taipei includes 120 hours add-grace period, registered, expired, auto-renew grace period (the days of auto-renew grace period depends on registrar’s rule), 30 days of redemption grace period, 5 days of pending delete, and released.

    Please note that the add-grace period starts after the successful registration of the domain name and lasts for 120 hours. If the domain name is deleted during this period, domain name will be released immediately. If the domain name is deleted after five days of add-grace period, it will enter the 30 days of redemption grace period.

  • Should I apply for a .taipei domain name if I already have a domain name in use?

    .taipei domain name is the identification for an individual or corporation based in Taipei City. You can find short and easy to memory .taipei domain name in early stage. In addition, you will have more than one entrance for your website.

  • When will .taipei launch for registration?

    Beginning from 1-December, 2014, there are four phases for .taipei launch: Sunrise Period, Taipei Enterprise Sunrise Period, Landrush Period and General Availability.

    Sunrise

    • Date: 2014/12/1 ~ 2014/12/31
    • Qualification: Only SMD File holders (or their agents) are allowed to submit Sunrise Application(s). Successful Sunrise Registration(s) will be allocated to trademark holders.
    • Naming Rules: Besides following .taipei domain naming policy, the name registered must consistent with trademark or the combination of words.
    • Verification: Should provide business registration number and trademark proof materials. Prior verification is now in the process. Please contact .taipei registrars for more details.
    • Allocation: First come first served

    Pioneer Program Allocation

    • Date : 2015/1/5 ~ 2015/1/12
    • Allocation: The pioneer names will be allocated to registrant after the Sunrise Period.
    • Claim Service: All name registered shall be included in ICANN’s mandatory trademark claims process.

    Taipei Enterprise Sunrise Period I

    • Date: 2015/6/16 10PM ~ 2015/7/6 10PM
    • Qualification: Only companies, community groups, business associations, and individual registered in Taipei City or New Taipei City who owns trademark certification issued by Taiwan trademark institution are allowed to submit Application(s).
    • Allocation: Multiple Applications for the same domain name will proceed to auction after the end of landrush period.

    • Naming Rule:

      1. must be consistent with the complete trademark label or part of it, the English business name of the legal person, the English translation of the legal person’s Chinese name, or the combination of the trademark label and business name;
      2. spaces or other symbols(exclude hypen) in the trademark label should be deleted or replaced with hyphens;
    • must be relevant to the applicant’s trademark or business name and be able to identify the applicant’s merchandise, services, or organization. .taipei Registry will verify the qualification and domain name label and may, in its sole discretion, reject the application.
    • Claim Service: All name registered shall be included in ICANN’s mandatory trademark claims process.

    Taipei Enterprise Sunrise Period II

    • Date: 2015/7/7 10PM ~ 2015/7/17 10PM
    • Qualification: Only companies, community groups, business associations, and individual registered in Taipei City or New Taipei City are allowed to submit Application(s).
    • Allocation: Multiple Applications for the same domain name will proceed to auction after the end of landrush period.

    • Naming Rule:

      1. must be consistent with the complete trademark label or part of it, the English business name of the legal person, the English translation of the legal person’s Chinese name, or the combination of the trademark label and business name;
      2. spaces or other symbols(exclude hypen) in the trademark label should be deleted or replaced with hyphens;
      3. must be relevant to the applicant’s trademark or business name and be able to identify the applicant’s merchandise, services, or organization. .taipei Registry will verify the qualification and domain name label and may, in its sole discretion, reject the application.
    • Verification: Any qualified companies, community groups, and business associations should provide Personal ID or business registration number and trademark proof materials when they apply for domains.
    • Claim Service: All name registered shall be included in ICANN’s mandatory trademark claims process.

    Landrush Period

    • Date: 2015/7/23 10PM ~ 2015/9/2 10AM
    • Qualification: any individual or any corporation that wants to register .taipei domain names before general availability.

    • Allocation :

      • 1st Phase: (2015/7/23 10PM ~ 2015/7/31 10PM) Multiple Applications for the same domain name will proceed to auction after the end of Period.
      • 2nd Phase: (2015/8/6 10AM ~ 2015/8/1410AM) First come first served
      • 3rd Phase: (2015/8/18 10AM ~ 2015/8/26 10AM) First come first served
      • 4th Phase: (2015/8/27 10AM ~2015/9/2 10AM) First come first served
    • Claim Service: All name registered shall be included in ICANN’s mandatory trademark claims process.

    General Availability

    • Date: 2015/9/9 10AM
    • Qualification: Any individual or any corporation that wants to register .taipei domain names
    • Allocation: First come first served
  • Who can apply for a .taipei domain name during Sunrise Period?

    During Sunrise Period, the applied-for domain name must be identical with trademark that registered in Trademark Clearinghouse(TMCH). Applicant will also need to provide SMD (Signed Mark Data) for registration. You can find Sunrise registration policy here .

  • Who can apply for a .taipei domain name during Taipei Enterprise Sunrise Period?

    The Applicant should be a legal person or a natural person who registrars in Taipei City and New Taipei City. The Applicant should hold national or international trademark certificates or business registration issued by Taipei City Government or New Taipei City Government. The trademark certificate or the business registration is required and could be verified via public database by .taipei Registry. You can find Taipei Enterprise Sunrise registration policy here .

  • How do I know I meet the requirement to apply for a .taipei domain name during Taipei Enterprise Sunrise Period? Should I provide any materials?

    In order to protect the Trademark owner, in addition to registration information, applicant must provide business registration number and Trademark certification for verification. You should submit applications via accredited registrars and provide related materials for verification. .taipei registry accepts prior verification, please contact .taipei accredited registrars to submit your application for verification.

  • What is Landrush period? Should anyone apply for a .taipei domain name in this period?

    Landrush period is the only period that allows anyone to apply for a .taipei domain name without any requirement before General Availability.
